At the end of a testing day at the Berkshire Golf Club for the 2016 Ricoh Women’s British Open Pre Qualifying event, 27 championship hopefuls progressed to Final Qualifying at John O’Gaunt where they will be in with a chance of securing a place in the fourth women’s Major Championship of the year.
Leading the pack of players battling the wind and intermittent rain was England’s Rebecca McGinley and Emma Goddard, who eased through with rounds of 70 (-2). By contrast, England’s Alexandra Peters and Italian amateur, Ludovica Farina, sealed their fate in a different manner, with birdies on the 18th to seal their Final Qualifying berth on the cut line, which fell at one over par 73.
Of the 27 players to qualify, a total of eight amateurs kept their dream of alive of playing at Woburn at the end of July with 11 different nationalities represented in the list of qualifiers.
